£5k months: Business coaching’s 10,000 steps
“Post your way to £5k.”
You’ve seen it, right? The glossy graphics, the coaches promising the formula, the blueprint, the secret that will get you there.
Here’s the thing: £5k months sound great on Instagram. But in reality? They’re not the benchmark for success they’re made out to be.
Let’s break it down. £5k a month is £60k a year, a brilliant salary for some. However, the UK average (outside London) hovers around £37k. So while £60k is achievable, it’s not a reality for everyone, nor does it need to be.
Here’s what bothers me: the £5k month narrative makes it sound like that’s the only goal worth chasing. But it ignores the real reasons women choose self-employment in the first place. For some, it’s being home with kids while they’re small. For others, it’s caring for parents or relatives without needing to beg for “time off.” It’s choosing your own hours, building in breathing space, and having the autonomy to do work your way. It’s about creativity and ownership, not just cash.
And yes, money matters. I want you to make it. I want your business to feel solid, sustainable, and profitable. But I don’t want you to feel like you’re failing just because you don’t hit a slogan-level figure.
Especially when most of the women I work with are spinning multiple plates already. Between unreliable WiFi, a field full of animals, and kids who won’t nap unless the car is moving, business growth looks very different to a coach with a ring light in a city flat. It’s slower. It’s layered. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.
So no, I won’t sell you a shiny promise of £5k months. What I will do is help you grow your business into something that works for your goals, your reality, and your life. Because “success” looks different in the middle of a rural juggle. And that’s exactly where it should.
